Pond Dipping

24th May 2018

The children in Reception have been learning about the life cycle of a frog so we headed down to our pond to hunt for them. We spotted one hiding but he was too quick for us to catch. The children did however manage to catch lots of newts and water snails. They loved holding the newts and were fascinated by their spotty bellies and beautiful orange eyes.

Our Royal Wedding Street Party!

The Children in Reception and Nursery celebrated the Royal Wedding last week by having a street party at school. They dressed up in their smart wedding clothes and baked some sweet treats to eat. They even practised their ballroom dancing!

The Big Breakfast

3rd May 2018

The parents came into the Reception Class this morning to share a healthy breakfast with their children. It was a fantastic opportunity to talk about healthy eating and which foods are best to sustain us throughout the day. All of the children are now excited to go and make their own healthy choices. Thank you parents for attending our session, it was brilliant to see you all there! Your support is much appreciated.

Exploring Capacity

The Gingerbread Man

23rd November 2017

Over the past two weeks the children in Reception have been learning the traditional tale of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We have been learning the story in the ‘talk for writing’ style where the children learn to re-tell the story with actions. They have loved getting involved in a number of Gingerbread man related activities: making and painting salt dough Gingerbread Men, building bridges for the Gingerbread Man to cross, participating in bakery role play, making up their own versions of the story and of course baking their own delicious Gingerbread men. We are currently conducting a scientific experiment in class…

Reception Book Fundraiser

Reception Class would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents who brought something from our toffee apple stall last week. We have raised £36.50 to buy new fiction books for our class library!

Diwali in the Early Years

2nd November 2017

Early Years learned about the Hindu festival of Diwali. Nursery children  made and decorated some beautiful diva lamps and made rangoli patterns in the playground.  We have also been doing some wonderful Indian Bollywood dancing! As Diwali is the ‘celebration of light’ the children in Reception have been using this opportunity to experiment with light and investigate how they can change it.
